Saturday July 7, 2012 was a memorable night of charity for the Sonoran Resorts and City of Peñasco DIF (Family Development Program) and we posted a lot of photos yesterday showing many of the nice folks who participated in the Las Vegas style casino evening and helped raise $5,000 for that well deserving effort. After being lured away for two and a half years to Mazatlán, Bobbie recently returned to her beloved Puerto Peñasco and has found her “dream job”, calling Director of Sales and Marketing, Jim Ringquist, “the best manager I have ever worked with.” She’s also quick to add that the quality of the Sonoran Resort Condominiums is “something we are all proud to represent.”
We have a lot of events in Puerto Peñasco, most are colorful and fun. But there are several that seem to project the true culture of this great and historic country and people more than others. This year’s Tequila Fest was one of those. Maybe it was the location, maybe it was the way they laid it out, maybe it was the décor, and most likely it was the traditional folkloric performances by the dancers, singers and musicians that continued through the night showering the attendees, including many ex-patriots with color and sounds of the “real” Mexico we all came here to experience.
On Sunday May 27th, our good friends, Mark and Barb Olszewski of the Adopt-a-Classroom (http://www.rockypointclassroom.com/ ) local Puerto Peñasco charity organization, took 20 generous contributors 27 miles southeast of Puerto Peñasco to Isla San Jorge (known locally as Bird Island) for some snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, bird and sea lion watching.
Where else can you get $300 in chips for one $30 ticket (or $600 in chips for $50 and two tickets) and a chance to compound the value by winning at Black Jack, Roulette, or Texas Hold ‘em? Then, let the fun begin because at the end of this wonderful night of games, food and a cash bar, you’ll be able to bid on dozens of great prizes that have been cheerfully donated by our many generous businesses here in Rocky Point.
For five years Laura Valencia, a second generation Puerto Peñasco native, has been the pulse of organization for the Sonoran Sales Group, tending to everything from listing and closing documents to paying bills for owners.
But, before we get to the ‘Cat in the Bag’, there are over 30 other really good reasons for you to stop by Shrimp Plaza (on the corner of Benito Juarez and Fremont between Bancomer and City Hall) on Saturday May 26 from 10:00AM until 5:00PM.
The more than 30 local businesses, artists and crafts makers who snapped up all the available spaces almost immediately represent the active nerve center of folks who help make your visit to Puerto Peñasco so darn much fun while you’re here. This Business Expo is the Mexican and American business communities reaching out so you can get to know them even better than you already do. It’s the business community melded with the City of Puerto Peñasco wanting to get to know you better as well.
If you are looking for Director of Sales Jim Ringquist at the Sonoran Sea, you just missed him… Jim and his trusty office manager, Laura, have recently relocated to the Sonoran Resorts newest premier property, the Sonoran Sky. They are easy to locate in their new digs just off the lobby through the glass doors behind the reception desk.
Around noon on Saturday, May 5 along Sandy Beach a colorful array of sails guided 14 catamarans into position for the annual Spring Fun Sailfest put on by Multihull Fleet 42 of Phoenix, the only open-class multihull sailing club in the Southwestern region. They also have a Laser Fleet, and in actuality welcome any other small monohull sailboats as well.
If you are a frequent visitor or resident of Puerto Peñasco and haven’t eaten at Tacos Brissa yet, the next time you find yourself at Melchor Ocampo and Sinaloa (down the street from Aká Sí on the corner across from the Oxxo), stop in and try one of Gama Tavarez’menu items for lunch or dinner.
