Sometimes so much is going on in our little slice of paradise by the sea that we can’t address the many short subjects with proper attention in our blog. To handle the hodgepodge of dangling subject matter, we invented the Potpourri Page. Guaranteed to make you 46% smarter and 11% more likely to lead the […]
When good friends get together for a brainstorming session, something good usually results. With the objective of diversifying some of their investments, four local business leaders recently put their heads together, pooled their talents, expertise and resources to develop a unique dining experience in Puerto Peñasco. The four brains involved belong to Martín Martínez of Terranova Properties, which include two restaurants; Eddie Wharez of fine furniture and interior design fame; Carmen Martens of Sushi Sun Japanese Restaurant fame, and Jorge Bonillas, professor at Cetmar Center for Technological Studies of the Sea. The finished product is Bacanora Grill…
It seems Louie and Kim Xourafas always return from their annual trek back to Louie’s home town in Greece with something new and exciting for their restaurant. Last year it was a change in the location of their restaurant from the plaza in front of Peñasco del Sol hotel to the space in front of their home just about six blocks away on Calle Plutarco Elias, the street that crosses Calle 13 and takes you by Sea Side Reservations Headquarters and Dukes, at the corner of 19th Street on your way to Playa Bonita…
Bob, however, is one of those guys, like many here in Rocky Point, who could and should have a book written about his life. In fact, he already has the title: “Trouble”. There just wasn’t enough action at his track down here, aptly named Thunder on the Beach Raceway, especially the type that could rustle up enough adrenaline to thread the veins of a guy who’s raced about every kind of vehicle and vessel that would hold enough horsepower to scale a six foot wall with one wrong move or take a 200 mph nitro-injected skip around a lake surface, or go so fast so quick it requires a parachute to stop.
One of the most illustrative examples of such a Mexican roadside diner is El Pollo Pápago located on Benito Juárez just south of the Burger King across the street from Dulcería Lupita. If you’re in the mood for rotisserie chicken, El Pollo Pápago, have racks spinning and searing chickens from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM daily…
Two guys are sitting at a bar…a cliché you’ve heard a thousand times; and “This ain’t no joke;” another cliché that has hit the thousand mark in your mind. However, not in the case of the origin of Mexico Beach Bum Bar and Restaurant, Rocky Point’s newest hangout to go chill out at the Malecón, perhaps on the upstairs terrace across from the Sea of Cortez as you ponder the deeper questions of life, like…
It might be an understatement to say The Friendly Dolphin is arguably the most recommended eating establishment in all of Rocky Point. Nor would it be a stretch to say that most who experience this venue for the first time do so accompanied by, or at the recommendation of friends or family. The reason that […]
In Chicago, Louie met Kim; they married and moved to the Phoenix area in 1977. An avid fisherman, Louie discovered Rocky Point in the early 80’s, bought a house and a boat and he and Kim came down several times a year to fish and enjoy the beach and peaceful lifestyle of Rocky Point until moving here permanently at the first of this year with plans to open an authentic Gyro restaurant.
Right down to their famous Christmas Train and Snow Village display, Mike Riggs and his wife, Cindy Hall have always included children when considering the atmosphere they wanted to create in the Latitude 31 Restaurant and Bar in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico.
