When the popular Chango’s Bar and Grill located at the entrance to the Sonoran Spa and Sonoran Sea Resorts became available recently, the Wrecked Group just could not resist the opportunity to add their creativity to a venue with which they were so familiar, especially considering the future fate of Wrecked at the Reef when the new home port construction begins…
Their charitable work is appreciated by a list of organizations and individuals as long as Sandy Beach (O.K., depending on the font size you use to make up that list); and now it has been officially recognized as Mark and Barb Olszewski received a most deserved award from The Uncommon Women on Common Ground Group on Tuesday September 10, 2013.
Among many events planned by this forward thinking young organization, is one taking place tonight (Thursday September 12) at Ramon’s Restaurant in the Sonoran Sea in the form of a true Mexican Grand Soirée to raise funds that will go to assist four charitable causes here in Rocky Point: La Casa Hogar Esperanza Para Los Niños; Lion’s Club of Puerto Peñasco; Children’s Foundation; and the AJSonora Foundation for Children…
Of course we have plenty of species that love it here in Puerto Peñasco and spend the year around, so, interspersed with some hot news about the exciting events coming up in Rocky Point during the next 60 days and longer, we’ll be sneaking in a few articles about one of the most unique aspects of wildlife we enjoy on a daily basis here on the edge of the Sea of Cortez….
Beneath a flush of silken blush you gently slide from the custom platform of a 28 foot Nordic Aventura inboard, rising, completely dry, as you separate from the boat leaving just you and a colossal parachute floating beyond where even the pelicans fly. Ernesto Jimenez, owner of Federico’s Parasailing (Ernesto named the business after his father) makes this dream come true for visitors and locals alike every day the sea cooperates…
The “Dive Shop” or “Activity Center”, as it’s commonly referred to is owned and operated by Daniel Guemes Castorena and his wife, Erika Reyna Castro, both PADI certified divers and much more. Daniel is a PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) Staff Instructor which means he is qualified to teach the teachers all the way to the Master Diver level. Erika herself is a PADI certified Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor. In other words, if you’re looking for PADI certification at any level, you cannot do better than the Dive Shop at Sonoran Sea Resort.
Puerto Peñasco is so much more than a friendly beach town for rest and relaxation. Once again, our residents have proven how quickly they can come to the aid of visitors in those rare situations when something does go wrong.
In the case of Sonoran Sea Resort owners, Pam Ross-Fogel and husband Bob, they were recipients of a full and impressive dose of the kind of caring action that our residents are capable of pouring forth when the going gets tough.
When conducting research for the blog on Barb’s great Rubber Ducky Race in July, the rather creative term for a group of ducks, “a paddling” (along with several others as in the headline above), got us wondering how much fun it would be to see what words our imaginative ancestors came up with to describe groups of other animals. And sure enough, it was certainly an interesting delve into history, conflict and clever interpretation dating, in some cases, back to the 16th century…
Nearly 650 Rubber Duckies, over 200 Ducky Sponsors, 30 generous prize donors, nearly 70 big hearted volunteers and one 54’ fishing yacht donated by Captain and owner, Adolfo Perez, all came together on Sunday July 21st and exceeded the goal of raising enough money to take care of the expensive summer utilities of the nonprofit, all volunteer Esperanza Para Vida Nueva Community Center in Puerto Peñasco…
Schools in Mexico start up in August, and thus do the needs for school supplies by the nonprofit charity organization, Adopt-a-Classroom founded in 2003 by Rocky Point residents, Barb and Mark Olszewski. Throughout every year they have acted as the central distribution point, including delivery, to 11 schools in Rocky Point and one in Port Lobos a little over 2 hours drive south, helping provide educational supplies to nearly 10,000 kids…
