Essay by guest blogger, Jack Hecker–We had just finished a golf game and were sitting around drinking beer and lying, which is what most of us do best. I explained I would not be playing the next week because I was going to Rocky Point. You mean Mexico? Are you crazy, they asked? They’re killing people left and right down there. My response was, would you go to Phoenix or Chicago? Besides, I spent many years working in downtown Cleveland. They’re not shooting little fat, bald Americans like me…
If by chance you’ve been asking yourself or your mate this question, well, you’re not the only one. So we went on an all-you-can-eat fish fry affirmation expedition, starting with the most likely venues: those four long time Rocky Point Bars, Grills and Restaurants that pretty much started the bottomless fried fish platter
After the “Mother of all Street Parties” on 13th Street Friday night, it would be normal to ask, “How can you top that?” Well, that rhetorical question was being answered quite clearly by a little after noon on Saturday where thousands of bikes, bikers, lookers and lurkers merged upon the welcoming watering holes that lace the main drag of Rocky Point’s Malecon for a day of …
After the opening concert at Peñasco del Sol and the Beach Fiesta at Playa Bonita, it seemed the entire crowd went directly to 13th Street to show off their bikes and dance to the rhythms of “Pachuco Blues” who were set up mid way down the street. These photos pretty much tell the story of the Friday night fun and give you an idea of how many bikers descended upon our beach town for the 12th Annual Rocky Point Bikers Rally…
Coming down this week? Please don’t forget about the people who make it so much fun to visit this hospitable resort town. Bring some extra non-perishable food items with you this trip and it will be graciously accepted from you at any Sonoran Resorts Sale Offices including the Sea, Spa, Sun or Sky, or at the Tourist and Visitor Assistance Office downtown on the 2nd floor of the blue Tequila Factory building…
Pat’s been down to Mexico before – to Guaymas, where he helped build houses for a charity. Pat’s favorite part? The Mexican people. I can see why. The ease of connecting with so many “strangers” in Mexico can refresh the spirit and be a tonic to the soul…
For the second year Sonoran Resorts are encouraging everyone to donate whatever non-perishable foods you can spare or choose to donate to be distributed to the many families in Puerto Peñasco who have been affected by the devastating crash of the tourism-based economy here over the last several years…
The spirituality of Pinacate, the desert and the sea converge in Rocky Point. Meet one who has walked this area for centuries….
What a terrific way to put your memory of a loved one taken by this monstrous disease to a greater good! Join the 7th Annual Rocky Point Cancer Walk this Saturday, October 27th at 4:00PM at the Guadalupe Catholic Church. The walk starts at 5:00PM in order to arrive at the Malecon by sunset.
I have become a Sonoran Sky Stalker (ok, not in a bad creepy way though). The live view cam over their pool deck is my lifeline to the beach. When I sit at my desk and it is 110’ outside (or more) I know that my favorite beach is only a four hour drive away.
