We are fortunate here in Puerto Peñasco to have many cultural events throughout the year that include presentations of the historic folklore of this colorful country in the form of traditional foods, music, dance and song. There is also a modern cultural element in our little slice of paradise by the sea that is brought to us in the form of music, such as jazz; song, such as modern rock; and dance, such as ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical interpretation. It is the latter cultural contribution that we bring to you in today’s blog…
Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers are such a stand out rock and roll phenomenon and of near incalculable importance to the economy of our little slice of paradise by the sea, yet they are the first to say that it’s their fans, affectionately known as the Peacemakers, that make it all possible year after year. So in the spirit of one of the most loyal fan bases of any music group, we salute the Peacemaker Fans this year…

Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas with a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Kansas, Dennis brings over a decade of international travel experience in the airline industry and with the Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau, which he says has helped him grasp what the true potential for growth is here in Puerto Peñasco. With more space, more decorations, more black jack tables, more Texas Hold ‘em tournament tables and improved layout, by the official opening time, it seemed the veterans from last year had already found their place at a black jack table, after sharing a sample of Puerto Peñasco’s own Tequila Peñasco of their choice from Charlie Muratore, located at the casino entrance right across from the registration table…
About four years ago, while I was perusing one of the Rocky Point forums, I read of a man who had a dire need of a job and Mark Olszewski’s efforts to help him find one. Mark mentioned the family’s little girl and their need for food and play things for her. Having a thing for kids, I was truly touched by his efforts.

The Duckies, 1500 of them, will be ceremoniously dumped from “About Time” charter fishing yacht, by Captain and owner Adolfo Perez and Mark Olszewski. Unparalleled seaman that he is, Mark will then immediately de-board the About Time into a kayak which he’ll maneuver (read: man handle) along with at least one other “Ducky Herder” to keep all the… (…you knew it had to start somewhere…) Duckies in a row, so to speak.

Every year for the last 16 years Barrio Obrera has put on a veritable feast of food, music, fireworks and fun for upwards of 600 residents and visitors from around town. So well attended is this annual event that the barrio selects a different host to head up the organization to sort of spread the honor of burden, if you will. This also brings a different style and attempted oneupmanship within the same traditional theme, any one of which could serve as the sacred system on how to throw the ultimate neighborhood bash!
