The contest ended in a flurry at midnight last night (Wednesday October 10, 2012) with several last minute entries arriving before the deadline. In about five days we’ll be announcing the winners of the Sonoran Resorts’ “Best Job in the World” Travel Writing contest, and the competition is going to very close!
As with any volunteer effort, or any effort for that matter, the effectiveness of reaching goals is directly related to the motivation of those who are willing to take massive, immediate action to get stuff done. Enter Mark and Barb Olszewski who moved to Rocky Point nearly two decades ago from Tempe, Arizona and who are known and appreciated by dozens of charitable organizations and thousands of local citizens—kids and parents alike.
Mark your calendars for Saturday July the 7th! It will be a great night of Las Vegas style fun at the Sonoran Sky Beach Front Condominium Resort to benefit the city’s municipal charity, DIF. Try your hand at Black Jack, Poker and Roulette to build on the $300 in chips you get with each ticket. Tickets are just $30 U.S. each or two for $50. Use your winnings to bid on dozens of gifts that will be on display throughout the night and available after the gambling is over!
To truly appreciate this event is to understand that the word “Taste” in this moniker is used in its full nuance from the word “Sabor” in Spanish which refers to much more than just the taste of food. It idiomatically encompasses all that makes a place, a thing, or an atmosphere endemically and invitingly pleasing to ones senses, like its color, its culture, its art, its people, its music, its dance, as well as its traditional foods and drinks.

It all starts at 11:00 A.M. and runs until 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Plaza del Camarón (Shrimp Plaza) located on Benito Juarez across Fremont Street from City Hall.
Saturday December 17 marked the first Farmers Market and Art Expo in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico; just two weeks after Mike McLaughlin came up with the idea to recreate here in Rocky Point a similar event to one that is held regularly in Tucson.
