Back in January we published a blog about the abundance of helping hands from the American Community in Rocky Point featuring the selfless efforts of several residents of our community and how they helped the needy in several different charities locally. We wrote about Ron and Carol Okinga who, among other charities they help, were showing up at a small new Church every Saturday to cook a pancake breakfast for the neighborhood kids. The Church is called The Good Samaritan Church of God. You can read our blog about the church as it was then at https://www.sonoranresorts.mx/?p=3155 .
Our hot August night skies are seared with serendipity in this year of 2012. We have the good fortune of gazing up into a full moon twice in this same month; an event that only occurs every two –three years. Friday August 31, 2012 will mark the second full moon of this month. Check our blog https://www.sonoranresorts.mx/?p=5682 for details on this. You don’t have to wait until the 31st to see a spectacular event in the August night sky, however. The annual Perseid meteor shower begins its most illustrious sequence in the wee hours of Saturday August 11 through Monday August 13.
Even though you won’t be able to submit your travel article on “Why I Love Rocky Point” until one minute after midnight tonight, we want to give you access to the finalized Rules for entering the contest, including final details on the three prizes, and other good stuff to get your creative juices flowing in case you haven’t completed your literary masterpiece.
Most have heard an expression of something like, “Oh, that only happens once in a Blue Moon,” or something similar. Well, if you’ve been waiting for a Blue Moon you’ve got less than a month to wait. Because on the night of August 31st above the glowing Sea of Cortez off the sandy beaches of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico and the rest of the world, there will be one.
Rocky Point’s new wheel chair basketball team, Los Rolling Rockies, continued their fundraising activities on Thursday with a “Segunda” (in the U.S. it’s called a yard sale) in front of the DIF Physical Rehab Center here. Mark and Barb Olszewski made available clothes they have collected through their loyal followers on Facebook, Rocky Point Talk, our own Sonoran Resorts web site Blog and monthly newsletter from our Director of Sales, Jim Ringquist, as well as from generous folks around town.
We’ve received so many positive responses to our announcements about the Sonoran Resorts “Why I Love Rocky Point” Best Job in the World Travel Writing Contest that we know this is going to be an exciting adventure for everyone involved!
You know the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Well, our new Sonoran Resorts Travel Writing Contest is about the “thousand words” because sometimes painting a picture with a thousand words is at least as effective at conveying the emotion, details and even the color, when it’s about a destination that you love. That’s because, with words, you can emphasize the story behind the beauty of a destination like Rocky Point.
If you couldn’t make it out Friday the 20th of July to the first fundraiser held for Puerto Peñasco’s new wheel chair basketball team, Los Rolling Rockies, you missed a picture-perfect evening of fun…
Tacos, Beer, DJ Music and Los Rolling Rockies wheelchair basketball team will all be happening at the Terramar Restaurant this Friday evening from 7:00PM to 11:00PM. The Terramar Restaurant is located right across from the Fonatur Marina and a block off Benito Juarez behind Las Palmas Artisans Market. (See photo) It’s a fundraising celebration for Los Rolling Rockies team who just returned from a memorial tournament in Navojoa, Sonora which, by the way, was their first official competitive event.
In 2009 Rick made the big move to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point); a paradise with great beaches, tropical weather and a future he believed in. He obtained his real estate license and accepted a position with the Sonoran Resorts, which he still believes is the best condominium development on Sandy Beach. Again in his own words Rick “Never looked back.”
