The spirituality of Pinacate, the desert and the sea converge in Rocky Point. Meet one who has walked this area for centuries….
When the tight-knit Sonoran Resorts sales team decided to throw a surprise birthday party for their lovable multi-tasking sales admin assistant, Laura Valencia, they handled it with the same cool professionalism and warm family style harmony with which they handle their professional relations—cooperation, thoroughness and a dash of colorful Pizzazz!
I have become a Sonoran Sky Stalker (ok, not in a bad creepy way though). The live view cam over their pool deck is my lifeline to the beach. When I sit at my desk and it is 110’ outside (or more) I know that my favorite beach is only a four hour drive away.
After an easy motorcycle insurance purchase, a simple border crossing, and a beautiful wide road that meandered through the desert and sand dunes we arrived at our hotel on the beach. The salt air, clear blue water and resort complexes spoke to my husband’s sense of comfort.
Results from the scores of ten judges made after a blind reading of the 26 stories that qualified for the finals are now in and tabulated. The competition was as close as we thought it would be, with only a few points differentiating the second through fifth highest scoring stories. You probably know Luis Garrido of Outta Town Productions as the legendary beach volley ball organizer who brought his tournaments to Rocky Point for 19 years, along with thousands of participants and spectators which translated into substantial tourism revenues for the City of Puerto Peñasco. You can read more about Luis’ contribution to Rocky Point tourism and the sport of beach volley ball in our blog archive at https://www.sonoranresorts.mx/?p=2367.

Living in a tropical area on the sea as we do here in Puerto Peñasco, the hobby of birding can become quite addictive. That’s because out of the nearly 10,000 species of birds on the planet; nearly 10% are endemic to Mexico. In addition, hundreds upon hundreds of species migrate here as “winter visitors” each fall and remain as our fair weather feathered friends until spring.
