It’s almost as if nature set them up for a limited existence on earth. Although their ancestors have been around for a couple of million years, the tiny (in comparison) Vaquita (Phocoena sinus) porpoise lives in a very small area covering just 4,000 square kilometers of the 177,000 sq. km. Sea of Cortez.
After the opening concert at Peñasco del Sol and the Beach Fiesta at Playa Bonita, it seemed the entire crowd went directly to 13th Street to show off their bikes and dance to the rhythms of “Pachuco Blues” who were set up mid way down the street. These photos pretty much tell the story of the Friday night fun and give you an idea of how many bikers descended upon our beach town for the 12th Annual Rocky Point Bikers Rally…
The spirituality of Pinacate, the desert and the sea converge in Rocky Point. Meet one who has walked this area for centuries….
After an easy motorcycle insurance purchase, a simple border crossing, and a beautiful wide road that meandered through the desert and sand dunes we arrived at our hotel on the beach. The salt air, clear blue water and resort complexes spoke to my husband’s sense of comfort.
The contest ended in a flurry at midnight last night (Wednesday October 10, 2012) with several last minute entries arriving before the deadline. The sign says, “If you haven’t been to JJ’s Cantina, you haven’t been to Rocky Point.” That’s about as close as you can get to Truth in Advertising. Folks don’t simply ask you if you’ve been to JJ’s, they ask you if you’ve been to JJ’s yet.
If you’ve been putting off finishing the story about your favorite memory of Rocky Point, you still have approximately 48 hours (depending on when you read this blog) to get your story into us for consideration and possibly winning the Best Job in the World travel writing assignment that includes two weeks in a Luxury Sonoran Sky Resort Condominium suite right on Sandy Beach of the Sea of Cortez in lovely Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico, plus $50 US Dollars per day to spend as you wish while writing just five travel stories about your trip while you are here.
Living in a tropical area on the sea as we do here in Puerto Peñasco, the hobby of birding can become quite addictive. That’s because out of the nearly 10,000 species of birds on the planet; nearly 10% are endemic to Mexico. In addition, hundreds upon hundreds of species migrate here as “winter visitors” each fall and remain as our fair weather feathered friends until spring.
Roger Clyne and PH Naffah, founding members of The Refreshments and currently half of nationally touring Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers (RCPM) will play a rare acoustic duo concert Saturday night October 13, 2012 inside Wrecked At the Reef in Puerto Penasco, Sonora.
Can you keep a secret? Besides the billion or so Facebook, Twitter and Google readers to whom this blog is available, try not to spread this sure fire formula for finding sand dollars around any further, okay?
