When Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers come to Rocky Point in January, they come to jam! That’s what we’ve come to expect and that’s exactly what they deliver—and then some! This year’s January Jam of two nights held over the weekend of January 24th and 25th was a bit beyond exceptional up to and including the weather. The Jam began with the Friday night show at The Hut (formerly Chango’s) and of course Saturday at JJ’s Cantina in Cholla Bay where…
2013 transposed to 2014 with so many good things going on in our little slice of paradise by the sea that a couple more stories are in order to bring summary substance to the diversity of good people who perpetuate fulfillment of the many needs of Rocky Point’s poor.
Our first story is about the group of 70 or so LDS faithful from Mesa, Arizona’s Ray 2nd Ward Mormon Church who love Mexico, Puerto Peñasco and its people in particular. Though most had been enjoying the tranquil ambiance and mesmerizing natural beauty of the beach, the sea and surrounding desert for years, it was six years ago when they figured out ways they could help the locals they’d come to appreciate so much.
As they’ve done every Christmas holiday season since the early 2000’s, the non-profit group of incredibly generous volunteer families has put their hearts and souls into building complete homes in Puerto Peñasco and presenting them to deserving families selected from applications by needy familial enclaves who heretofore lived in totally impoverished shanties making the best
This is going to be another one of those “Don’t Miss This!” weekends in our little slice of paradise by the sea as Roger Clyne and his Peacemakers converge on their favorite third world cantina (Patio Stage at JJ’s Cantina in Cholla Bay) to jam for their loyal fans, a January tradition since ’08…
We never tire of conveying the gratitude shared by thousands of impoverished Rocky Point families who are recipients of the selfless generosity of our readers, made up of the expat community here and those of you who love Rocky Point like it’s your second home. Many of you bring down clothing, food and toys when you come, especially during the holidays when the needy need them most.
Were it not for your generous thoughts and actions thousands of kids would have no Christmas at all. Thanks to your donations…
For the third consecutive year the loosely organized group of volunteers, known affectionately as the Sonoran Spa Pilgrims, made up of Sonoran Spa beach front resort condominium owners in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico and a few of their friends and family donated resources, food and their personal time to prepare and serve a Thanksgiving day feast for more than 160 workers at the Sonoran Spa and the Sonoran Sea as well as the employees of Rocky Point Reservations who handle the rental pools for the two resorts.
It’s a sure bet that Marius Petipa, considered by many as the most influential ballet master that ever lived, the original choreographer of The Nutcracker Ballet, never imagined that it would begin a Christmas tradition in a small beach side town in Mexico called Puerto Peñasco. In fact, after the unsuccessful first run of his ballet in 1892, in spite of the musical score by none other than Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky…
Since its beginning, the foundation’s mission has been to help the children of needy families obtain medical services for serious and life threatening diseases and conditions. Over the decade of its existence the Mexico Children’s Foundation has provided funds that have helped over one hundred children, saved the lives of several and made emergency medical services available to many dozens more. Even more amazing is that the entire organization is run totally by volunteers allowing 100% of every dollar donated to go directly to helping the children…
A bundle of tightly scheduled fun activities and entertainment awaited the nearly 6,000 bikers from around Mexico and the U.S. who converged on our little slice of paradise by the sea for the weekend of November 7-10, 2013. With the improving economy and scaled down media sensationalism over Mexico travel safety; we enjoyed…
Steeped in 12 years of tradition that began in March of 2001 with a simple gesture by local hotelier (Playa Bonita Hotel owner), Harley enthusiast and passionate promoter of Puerto Peñasco, Oscar Palacio who first invited a couple of Mexican bike clubs from Mexicali and San Luis to rally for a weekend in Rocky Point…
