Among the nuclei of donation worthy charities in Puerto Peñasco, one of the most inconspicuous, yet highly effective health service providers is the Catholic extended care facility known as “Casa Hogar” home for the aged. Within the mission-style walled surrounding is a comfortable and secure atmosphere presently called home by 30 elderly citizens.
We never tire of conveying the gratitude shared by thousands of impoverished Rocky Point families who are recipients of the selfless generosity of our readers, made up of the expat community here and those of you who love Rocky Point like it’s your second home. Many of you bring down clothing, food and toys when you come, especially during the holidays when the needy need them most.
Were it not for your generous thoughts and actions thousands of kids would have no Christmas at all. Thanks to your donations…
It’s a sure bet that Marius Petipa, considered by many as the most influential ballet master that ever lived, the original choreographer of The Nutcracker Ballet, never imagined that it would begin a Christmas tradition in a small beach side town in Mexico called Puerto Peñasco. In fact, after the unsuccessful first run of his ballet in 1892, in spite of the musical score by none other than Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky…
Since its beginning, the foundation’s mission has been to help the children of needy families obtain medical services for serious and life threatening diseases and conditions. Over the decade of its existence the Mexico Children’s Foundation has provided funds that have helped over one hundred children, saved the lives of several and made emergency medical services available to many dozens more. Even more amazing is that the entire organization is run totally by volunteers allowing 100% of every dollar donated to go directly to helping the children…

Sister María Del Buen Consejo, Mother Superior of Casa Hogar home for the elderly, had an exciting month in September! She celebrated her birthday on the 16th, and the month was topped off with the installation of two new crosses and a statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe, an event that moved her deeply and it showed.
The crosses are not just any crosses. They were handmade by Mike Bibb, who, with his wife Eilene, have installed 16 of his crosses in and around Puerto Peñasco so far.
