Here’s a great way to walk off that extra helping of mashed ‘taters and gravy you gobbled up with the over-serving of gobbler you put away on Thursday. This Saturday, November 26th, just go out to the annual “Art in the Park” Crafts Fair fundraiser put on by the Las Conchas Homeowner’s Association Community Relations Committee. There will be a lot to keep you burning calories from 11:00AM to 4:00PM that day.
Besides being a lot of fun and a great place to shop for authentic gifts to give your stateside and local friends and family for Christmas presents, you’ll be doing your part in helping a bunch of needy folks native to the community we so cherish as our home by the sea.
Scheduled for the event already are over 20 artists displaying crafts of ironwood, metal art, glass art, jewelry, textiles, photography, shell boxes, oil paintings, spray paint art, plus others who may not have registered yet. You can even get a 15 minute massage for $10.00!
In addition to the arts and crafts exhibits, they have lined up three musical acts, plenty of food and drinks including beer and wine, a silent auction and activities for the kids. Art in the Park this year promises to be a great time and well worth your stopping by.
The fun starts at 11:00 AM and goes until 4:00 PM. It all happens at Fiesta Park, Sec. 1 in Las Conchas. The gate guards will be able to direct you if needed.
This event is only one of several fundraisers organized during the year by the Las Conchas Homeowner’s Association Community Relations Committee. They also have a benefit dinner, a community yard sale, a bocce ball tournament and an annual community party.
But that’s not all these fine residents do for their community. They’re involved throughout the year in ongoing activities supporting the needy. As one example, each month community volunteers and loyal sponsors assemble about 60 food bags for distribution to some of the neediest families in Peñasco. That’s why their flyer for the Art in the Park asks that you bring bags of rice or beans. Or you can bring jars of peanut butter and/or jelly because there is a group of ladies who make about 300 sack lunches every single Saturday afternoon for the kids in the poorest neighborhoods in town.
All in all the Community Relations Committee of Las Conchas raises over $15,000 a year that goes to such well deserving charities as: Casa Hogar, Escuela Montaña, Comunidad de Valores, Esperanza, Nuevo Creación School, Special Olympics, Red & Terry’s Puppy Rescue, Nancy Phelan’s Dog Rescue and CEDO. This is in addition to the food bags they assemble every month and the lunch sacks distributed every Saturday!
By the way, there is still time to register for a display space if you have an art or craft you think the public would like to see or buy. You can call for more information at (from the U.S.) 520-204-1449, or locally at 382-0139; or email basketballfan40@aol.com as soon as you can before the event.
It is so easy to help this giving group help others. All you have to do is bring a jar of peanut butter, jelly or a bag of rice or beans, come on out to the Art in the Park Crafts Fair, and have a great time…plus get a little Christmas shopping done, too.
And don’t forget about those Thanksgiving calories you’ll burn off walking around enjoying the arts and the sounds!
